Popularity of VR-porn: why and what can we wait from it

Technology and the porn industry have always been closely interconnected, historically it is on the market of porn movies that the most quickly start to apply various technical innovations, so virtual reality technology is simply not an exception. According to analysts of investment company Piper Jaffray, by 2025 pornography will be the third largest sector in the VR industry.

In connection with the growing popularity of VR porn, many psychologists have begun to raise the question of the possible consequences of this new stage of development of adults entertainment. Their fear is caused by the fact that VR-porn is much more realistic and feels much more intimate and personal than classic porn movies, and different researchers make different predictions about the consequences of such an evolution of the genre.

For example, Professor Neal Malamut of the University of California in Los Angeles, who studies the effects of pornography, also drew attention to the incredible intimacy of what is happening in VR-porno compared to the usual commercials. Such a feeling of presence and personal involvement in what is happening almost makes you forget about the unreality of what is happening. But so convincing intimacy and personal nature of porn in virtual reality can not, it would seem, be left without psychological and social consequences.

But the same professor Malamut is sure that as with other habits, like drinking alcohol, certain individual factors play a major role. Some people use it in moderation and for them it is just an easy way to relieve tension, while others do not hold back and become alcoholics.

VR-porn as well – the psychological effect will vary considerably from individual to individual. However, they have at least one serious negative effect – people who are already close enough to commit acts of sexual aggression, they will provoke to this even more than ordinary adult videos.

On the other hand, the illusion of real intimacy in VR can lead other users to a more satisfying sexual experience, and without any negative side effects. Well, clinical psychologist David Rey generally believes that VR-porn can help people become more active and active in finding real partners (and not vice versa, as many ordinary people think), because in these videos the viewer takes a more active position than in ordinary pornographic video, where he remains a bystander.

However, despite all these arguments, now VR-porn is causing a huge amount of criticism, but most professionals are convinced that this is just another manifestation of technophobia, which human history has already seen quite a lot and most professionals are still doubt that VR-porn will replace real feelings and real sex.
